RHAPSODY IN BLUE

  • The narrative was inspired by “Lipstick”, a famous Flapper and writer for The New Yorker. In her articles for The New Yorker, she would write anonymously about her extravagant nights out in the city. Here we are taken through one of her New York days, visiting some iconic locations such as Hotel Pennsylvania, The Cotton Club and The Russian Tea Room. The animation begins slowly to simulate the speed of dinner, then grows quicker as we go through the busy crowds of people hoping to get into the speakeasy. Taking the back entrance into the bar at 1am, we then enter a party. These parties were famously known to start getting crazy at 5am and to then run till the lights come back on at 10am where they would all stay for breakfast. Work in this project includes animation and illustration.
